Description

Sanford & Benedict is really the vineyard that started it all in Santa Barbara County. Starting with the 2015 vintage we were fortunate to secure several tons of Pinot Noir grapes from one of the most historically significant vineyards in all of California.

Originally planted in 1971, this mature vineyard yields a wine that is beautifully structured while also retaining the finesse and elegance we love in Pinot Noir.

Wine Critic Reviews
"From vines planted in 1971, this bottling offers cherry, carnation, cinnamon and loads of earth aromas on the nose. The palate blends ripe cherry flavors with a stony minerality, persistent acidity and white pepper." ~ Wine Enthusiast "The 2021 Pinot Noir Sanford & Benedict Vineyard 1971 comes from very old vines and, as with the classic Sanford & Benedict release, spent 15 months in French oak. It has classic Sta. Rita Hills game, iron and spicy notes and shows a more herbal edge in its red and black fruits and foresty, earthy nuances. I think the base cuvée is actually more concentrated, but this has slightly more precision and is medium-bodied, elegant, and silky, with a beautiful finish." ~ Jeb Dunnuck "...a small bottling of just 100 cases from the original plantings. Aromatic, lifted and beguiling, the 1971 is not an obvious wine. Readers will find an aromatic Pinot that emphasizes savory and earthy notes over primary fruit, something that is further amplified through the use of 25% stems." ~ Antonio Galloni's Vinous "Delivers gently mulled blood orange fruit laced with subtle sous-bois hint, while lightly blurred red tea, savory and sandalwood notes flitter throughout. Lengthy, with a mouthwatering edge on the bright, taut finish. Drink now through 2030." ~ Wine Spectator
